If AI ends up doing everyone's jobs, maybe AI should pay everyone. Like a dividend.
The pledges are real; the dividend is a what-if. Elon posted on 19 Oct: "Next year, I will give one of my SpaceX shares to every kid in America." One share closed at $146.03 on Fri 16 Oct. Details aren't out yet (Axios). Anthropic plans to put 5% of its shares into a company-run Public Benefit Fund, subject to stockholder approval. It might fund charities or "direct distributions to specific populations", but nobody has been promised a payment (AP).
